We love easy and quick healthy Summer Treats we can make our pups. These are some of the favourites and super simple to make with healthy ingredients. We hope your pup enjoys these as well
1. Doggie Peanut Butter & Banana Ice-Cream Pops
All you need are the following ingredients and your Bone Silicone Mould (or ice tray) or your Licking Mat – if you prefer.
Ingredients:
- 500g Greek Yoghurt (xylitol free)
- 60g smooth peanut butter (xylitol free)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 ripe banana
- Small Treats to put inside (optional)
- Treats to use as the sticks - we use shark cartilage broken into smaller pieces - or you can just use moulds
How to:
- Use a microwave to melt the peanut butter for around 30 seconds
- Mash the banana into a paste
- Place all of the ingredients into a food processor and mix until smooth. We like to add pieces of our pups’ favourite treats inside!
- Pour the mixture into moulds or Licking Mat.
- Once frozen, pop the frozen treats out and let your pooch enjoy!..
- If you want to make them into ice-cream pops cover the moulds with gladwrap and put a small slit in the middle of each mould - this helps hold the treat up! We love using our shark cartilage for this.
2. Dog Freshening Minty Treats
This treat is a great breath freshener for your pup since it contains parsley and mint.
These herby-licious ingredients also have many other surprising health benefits, too. Parsley aids digestion, can reduce inflammation and is even thought to have cancer preventing properties. Mint is a powerful antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral herb that will help prevent bacteria developing in your dog’s mouth.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of plain or Greek yogurt
- Small handful of fresh parsley leaves
- Small handful of fresh mint leaves
How To:
- Scoop your yogurt into a blender and add your parsley and mint leaves.
- Blend until the herbs are evenly spread throughout the mixture. At this point you can add a splash of water if you want to thin out your mixture to create a better pouring consistency.
- Fill your Silicone mounds to the brim and pop them in the freezer.
- Freeze until solid and serve.
3. Strawberry, Blueberry Yogurt Frozen Dog Treats
Ingredients:
- 1-2 strawberries
- a small handful of blueberries
- 1-3 spoonfuls of plain Greek yoghurt
You will need a blender and your Licking Mat. We add some parsley to the mix because its good for them.
How to:
- Blend the ingredients together
- Spread the mixture over your Licking Mat
- Freeze for 2-3 hours
Let your pup/s Enjoy!
4. Coconut Drops for a Shiny Coat
Coconut oil is refreshing, delicious and comes with many natural health benefits for our pups. Not only will it improve your dog’s skin and coat making it silky smooth, it’s also said to protect our dogs from illness and helps speed up the healing process if they’re feeling under the weather. A luxurious, healthy boost for your warm pooch on a summer’s day.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of organic coconut oil
- A handful of blueberries (optional)
- A teaspoon of honey (optional)
- 1 spoonful of meal topper (optional)
How To:
- Add your coconut oil to a bowl and place over a pan of boiled water.
- Wait until the coconut softens and shape into bite-sized balls.
- If you are adding any fruits, meal toppers/treats add them in here.
- Place the balls on a tray and put them in the freezer.
- Serve when hardened. Because coconut oil stays hard in cool temperatures, you can store your balls in the fridge in an airtight container to save on freezer space.
5. Fruity Popsicle
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups of strawberries
- 2 bananas
- ½ cup coconut oil
- Dog biscuits/Treats (we use Shark Cartilage)
- A splash of water
Method:
- Blend your strawberries and bananas together until smooth and heat your coconut oil until melted.
- Stir your fruity mixture and coconut oil together. The mixture should be reasonably thick like soft ice cream, but if it’s too thick, add a little water.
- Add the mixture to your Silicone Moulds and cover with cling film.
- Make a hole in the middle of the cling film with a knife and push your dog Treat through. This helps keep the biscuit/treat in an upright position while freezing.
- Pop them in the freezer and hey presto! Serve and enjoy.
Greek Yoghurt
Can you give a dog Greek yogurt?
Greek yogurt is safe and healthy for your dog to enjoy unless they’re lactose intolerant. It’s higher in protein than regular yogurts and has probiotic qualities. With modest but regular doses it can improve your dog’s digestion and strengthen their immune system. But as it’s a dairy product and dog’s can sometimes be intolerant to dairy, it may still upset your dog’s tummy. Feed in small quantities and note any signs of stomach upset. If it doesn’t agree with your pooch, you may need to stick to non-yogurt summer treats. But don’t worry, you’ll still have plenty of other options.
